  • The Shah Arab reservoir was first discovered in Liwa.

June 2007

  • Conceptual engineering feasibility study.
  • Pre Front-end engineering design (FEED).

February 2009 

  • FEED completed.

February 2010

  • Abu Dhabi Gas Development Company Limited was established by the Emiri Decree no. (03/2010) and recognized as one of the ADNOC Group of Companies.

Mar 2010

  • Early works package awarded.

May 2010

  • Shah Gas Development EPC packages were awarded.

January 2011

  • Completion of Pioneer Camp in Liwa.

February 2011

  • The company established its new identity as “Al Hosn Gas”
  • Development drilling started with spud of SY-501.

March 2011

  • Signature of the 60-40 joint venture between Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and Occidental Petroleum (Oxy) to establish Abu Dhabi Gas Development Company Limited (Al Hosn Gas).

May 2011

  • Completion of Main Access Road to Gas Plant and completed plant site preparation, fencing and handed over to EPC Contractors to start construction.
  • Awarded EPC Package 10 and Package 11, thereby completing award of all packages.   

March 2012

  • Won 2011 ADNOC HSE Award for Innovation for HAZEER standard.

April 2012

  • Signed contracts with NDC for two new build rigs of H&P and commenced rig operatorship of ND-34.

May 2012

  • Achieved EPC progress of 45%. 
  • Achieved 27% Emiratization.



June 2012

  • Completed 90% Engineering, 70% of material and Delivery, and 50% overall of Shah Gas Development Program.

July 2012

  • Commenced development drilling operations.

August 2012 

  • Two new H&P Rigs arrived at Shah Site and commenced drilling operations.

November 2012

  • Phase 2 HSEIA submitted to ADNOC. Rig ND 34 was released to ADCO.

December 2012

  • Rig-less well testing of the Arab C lateral in the SY-501 well was completed achieving all test objectives. CICPA camp completed.

March 2013

  • Al osn Gas received a recognition award from Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) during the award ceremony of ADNOC HSE Award 2012.  Drilling camp completed.

May 2013

  • Water and power supply available at site..
  • All piping interfaces were mechanically completed on the project.

June 2013

  • Al Hosn Gas corporate office shifted from Sheikh Khalifa Energy Complex to the new headquarters at Al Ain Tower.

October 2013

  • Al Hosn Gas was awarded Abu Dhabi’s “2013 Project of the Year” by “The Oil and Gas Year” Magazine.

December 2013

  • Obtain ISO 9000 Quality Certification by ABS QUALITY EVALUATIONS, IN.
  • Project achieved 90% progress.
  • Completed 17 wells on the first five drilling pads.
  • Emiratization achieved 41%. 1,067 employees including 410 UAE Nationals.​

February 2014 

  • Al Hosn Gas completes first 20 wells required for start-up of Shah Gas Plant.

March 2014

  • ​Power Generations Units Inaugurated in the Shah Field.
  • Implementation Electronic Document Management System.
  • Winning one of ADNOC HSE Awards.
  • Complete drilling 22 wells.

April 2014

  • Steam and flare systems were commissioned, making all major utilities available in the main plant.


June 2014
  • Awarded PLQ (Permanent Living Quarter) to Al Jaber.
  • The Project achieved an overall progress of 96.8%
September 2014​
  • Al Hosn Gas is one of the selected few companies to achieve Emiratization of approximately 50% while the company is still in a project phase.
  • A total of 258 million man-hours have been worked on the project from commencement through September 2014 
  • All 32 wells in the phase 1 drilling program were completed by year end 2014, several months ahead of original plan. 
January 2015
  • Starting gas production and continuing to sustain efforts towards full production capacity with safe and smooth operation in shah plant.
April 2015
  • Al Hosn Gas received a special recognition award from ADNOC for Integrating Community Well-being in Business Decisions.
  • Al Hosn Gas received award for Excellence in GIS Implementation (EGI) Award from GISTEC in the UAE as a result of the joint efforts and collaboration between Operations and IT.
July 2015
  • Al Hosn Gas Plant is reaching its full capacity by receiving one billion cubic feet per day of raw gas and producing half a billion cubic feet per day of sales gas delivered to the network. The Plant is now closer to steady state operation adhering to the highest standards of health, safety and environment.
  • Both gas processing trains and all 4 sulphur recovery units are currently operational and all products are being produced to specifications.
  • Al Hosn Gas received award for Special Achievement in GIS (SAG) from the Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) in the USA.
  • Al Hosn Gas officially joined Abu Dhabi Emergency Support Committee for Offshore Operators (ADESCO).
  • The Training on Root Cause Analysis of incidents using “TapRoot” program is completed. The Company conducted a survey to assess the occupational health hazards in the HQ and the living quarters at the site.


 August 2015
  •  Al Hosn Gas has successfully conducted exercise KINGFISHER, the first large-scale exercise at a new drilling location on the offshore Hail 3 Island.

September 2015

  • The company achieved more than 11.9 million LTI free work hours during 273 work days, despite the heat stress through the summer of 2015.
  • HSE division implemented the golden rules initiative, which aims to promote and strengthen employee awareness to abide by safe behaviours and take preventive measures to avoid the potential risk of accidents as well as safeguard properties and protect the environment.
  • Our Core Values workshops have been launched and well attended by employees.


November 2015

  •  MUSHARAKAH survey has been launched, a confidential online employee engagement survey. It was designed to capture how we individually and collectively, contribute to company vision.
  • Al Hosn gas had presented two papers ADIPEC 2015 exhibition and conference; entitled “Driving Innovation in Red Zones Vehicles” and “Integrating Community Well-being in Business Decisions.”


April 26, 2016

  • H.H. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, officially inaugurated, today Al Hosn Sour Gas Development Project, the largest of its kind in the world.

January 2017
  • Technical and Engineering Support (TES) Division successfully completes the handover of Railway Crossover Bridge at the sulphure granulation station
March 2017
  • Commencement of the Spiking Compressor Project (Package 19) in Al Hosn Gas
